Theme: What skill are you researching? Example: Reading Comprehension
Section 1 (1-2 pages) Why have you selected this theme? Discuss your classroom experiences, and/or your interests in researching a theme at a different grade level that you presently teach. If you are referring to personal teaching experiences, discuss observations, i.e. student performance you have noted throughout your teaching career. For example, discuss students with well developed skills in this area and it's impact on their learning and mastery of information as well as students with poor skills in this area and it's impact on their educational performance. Discuss how they generalize skills to other settings or academic subjects. Discuss how this would be beneficial to your personal development
Section 2 (2-3 pages) Research Articles Select and summarize two Research articles (APA format) which discuss the skill you have chosen. The articles discuss the relevance of the skill in the classroom. (Professional Journals, Professional Educational sites, Include articles in binder)
You should also review various forms of media that address the skill – film clips, video, etc.
Section 3 (1-2 pages) (A) Visit a classroom and discuss your observations of student's performance in chosen area. For example: Observe students in a reading lesson. Note student's behavior- ability to respond to teacher inquires, the quality of student responses, student strengths and weaknesses and teacher strategies to facilitate understanding.
(Provide grade level, class profile, i.e., high percentage of ELL, class size, teacher support, technology, etc (B) Interview Teacher Discuss teacher's view of what strategies are most effective with his/her students and why. Teacher's vision for support required for student to master the skill.
Section 4 (1-2 pages) Select and summarize research articles which identify strategies and techniques that address your skill area. (Include articles) Minimum of six. In this section provide descriptions and available examples of how the skill would be taught.
Distinguish between programs and strategies. (will be discussed in class) Review various forms of media that address the skill – film clips, video, etc.
Discuss how you feel this strategy would be helpful or impact student performance.
Section 5 (1-2 pages) Summarize a minimum of two research articles that address teaching this specific skill with students with learning disability, /ADHD/Communication delays. (Include articles)
Section 6 (1-2 pages)__ Discuss your growth from this experience i.e. New knowledge /it's relevance to your teaching
